What is FuzzyPlate?: FuzzyPlate is a browser-based editor for making a sharing copy of a vehicle photo. You can obscure number plates, signs, reflections and other selected details with blur, pixelation or a cover effect.
Why blur a number plate before posting a vehicle photo?: A registration plate can be copied from a public image even when it is not relevant to the post. Blurring it can reduce accidental exposure, but it does not guarantee complete privacy or security.
Should I blur my number plate when selling a car?: Many sellers prefer to obscure the plate in public listing photos while still giving buyers the genuine vehicle details through appropriate marketplace fields and checks. See the car-sale photo checklist.
Can someone misuse a registration number from a photo?: A visible registration number is one piece of vehicle information. Misuse depends on context and other data, so FuzzyPlate avoids exaggerated claims; blurring can simply reduce unnecessary public exposure.
Will FuzzyPlate send my images to a server?: No. The current tool works locally in your browser; FuzzyPlate does not receive or store the image.
Will my editing session still be there when I return?: Images, queue order and saved edits are kept locally in this browser so you can leave the tool to read another page and return. Use Discard images and edits when you want to remove that local session.
Can I import a ZIP archive of photos?: Yes. Choose one ZIP archive and FuzzyPlate reads supported images locally, then adds them to the same photo queue as individually selected images. Archives are limited in size, image count and extracted data to keep the editor responsive.
Why can’t I import a 7z archive?: ZIP uses a small local browser reader. Reading 7z files would require a much larger browser decoder, increasing download size and memory use for every visitor. FuzzyPlate therefore supports ZIP archives only for now.
Why are there regular and enlarged editor views?: They are the same editor and share the same photo queue, effects and tools. The regular view keeps compact controls beside the image; use the expand icon in Tools when a larger view makes small details easier to inspect.
Does FuzzyPlate automatically detect number plates?: FuzzyPlate can suggest likely registration-plate locations after a photo loads. Suggestions are only a starting point: detection can miss or wrongly identify areas, and it does not find street signs or other non-plate details.
Can I obscure a street sign or another detail?: Yes. Draw and save an area around any detail you want to obscure, including signs, reflections, house numbers or other visible information. Automatic suggestions are for likely registration plates only.
How do I edit more than one area?: Select and save one area at a time, then repeat for other plates, reflections, signs or details. The step-by-step guide explains adjustment, rotation, Undo and Reset.
Can I use FuzzyPlate for garage or workshop photos?: Yes. Garages, workshops, detailers and valeters can use it to review visible plates in customer vehicle photos before publishing an edited copy online. See the workshop publishing checklist.
What should I check before a social post?: Review every image in the post, including backgrounds, reflections and the final crop. The social-media checklist covers galleries, carousels and public groups.
Is FuzzyPlate affiliated with DVLA or GOV.UK?: No. FuzzyPlate is independent and is not affiliated with DVLA, GOV.UK or any government service.
Is the tool free to use?: Yes, the current browser tool is free to use and does not require registration, login, accounts or payment.
